Hermitage Museum

The second largest museum in the world.

Saint Petersburg, Russia, Europe

Located in Saint Petersburg, Russia, the State Hermitage Museum is a museum of art and culture founded in 1764 when Empress Catherine the Great acquired an impressive collection of paintings from the Berlin merchant Johann Ernst Gotzkowsky. It has been open to the public since 1852. The collection of the State Hermitage includes over 3 million works of art and world culture artefacts (including 1,013,653 works of art and 13,982 pieces of armoury). It contains paintings, graphic works, sculptures, works of applied art, archaeological artefacts and numismatic objects. The collections occupy a large complex of six historic buildings along the Palace Embankment, including the Winter Palace which is the former residence of Russian emperors, and the exhibition space covers a 66,842 square metre large area. Immerse yourself in art, let yourself be overwhelmed and awed by this unique experience.
