The so-called 798 Art Zone, or Dashanzi Art District, comprised of a complex of decommissioned military factory buildings boasting a unique architectural style, rooted in an East German aesthetic, is located in Dashanzi, and houses a thriving artistic community. In fact, Factory #798 is only one of several structures inside a complex formerly known as the 718 Joint Factory built in the 1950s. The buildings are within alleys number 2 and 4 on Jiǔxiānqiáo Lù and are interspersed with a diverse selection of cafes and restaurants.
