Located in a historically significant, and splendid old Railway Hall, Júlio Prestes Station, the Sala São Paolo is one of the best concert venues in the world. Although there were naturally difficulties involved in reconciling modern technology with historical conservation, it is acoustically comparable to the Boston Symphony Hall, Musikverein in Vienna and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. The station reopened as a cultural venue, the Júlio Prestes Cultural Center, in 1999. Today the Sala is home to the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra.
