Sustainability:

  • 100% of the property’s energy is solar-generated. Entire eco resort is powered by renewable solar energy from 1,500 photovoltaic panels through a 300-meter-long solar array
  • 100% of food waste is recycled. Islas Secas dehydrates all food leftovers, which are then composted and turned into fertilizer, resulting in a circular, zero-waste system. Plans are also underway to create an organic on-island farm, using recycled wastewater for irrigation and featuring a robust composting program
  • 100% of wastewater is reused for irrigation
  • 75% of the archipelago has been left undeveloped
  • Thousands of native trees have been planted to help restore the natural infrastructure and integrity of the islands

Community interactions:

  • Providing employment to support local communities. They are committed to the ongoing professional growth and upward mobility of all staff, and offer hospitality training and capacity building programs to support career advancement.
  • Continually seeking sustainable, ethical providers of goods and services within the Gulf of Chiriquí, which provides important economic opportunities for locals beyond resort employees, which in turn fosters healthier communities.
  • Every year, groups of local children from the mainland are invited to observe whale migrations with visiting scientists to foster environmental education
  • Directly supporting community education and development projects. Programs supported include community projects that provide food, medicine, and housing to those in need, as well as supporting infrastructure repair and sponsoring local festivals.
