Harbin Opera House

The opulence of natural light

Haerbin, China, Africa

The large transparent glass walls spanning the grand lobby, visually connect the curvilinear interior with the swooping façade and exterior plaza. Balancing above, a crystalline glass curtain wall soars over the grand lobby space with the support of a lightweight diagrid structure. Comprised of glass pyramids, the surface alternates between smooth and faceted, referencing the billowing snow and ice of the frigid climate and the shapes of the natural wetland environment that surrounds the site. Visitors are greeted with a gigantic sculpture worth visiting, with or without a concert. More information here:https://www.archdaily.com/778933/harbin-opera-house-mad-architects
