Set in a beautiful English garden, the building which houses the Fondation Beyeler melds elegantly with its surroundings giving visitors an immersive experience of art and nature and architecture. With a main focus on Classic Modernism, the core collection includes works by Monet, Cézanne, Van Gogh, Picasso, Matisse, Klee, Giacometti, Warhol and Bacon as well as ethnographic art from Africa, Alaska and Oceania. But quite aside from this impressive permanent collection, which is showcased in spacious galleries flooded with natural light, the temporary exhibitions presenting contemporary artists or art movements are well worth a visit. This is a museum you will want to spend a lot of time in – in the gardens, the galleries, the green conservatory and the restaurant.
